Young scientists from the laboratory “Interdisciplinary Research and Education on Technological and Economic Issues of the Energy Transition (CIRETEC-GT)” have successfully completed their master’s degree course and taken a new start by enrolling in graduate school in an innovative area of research at SPbPU 1.6.21 Geoecology.

Two ambitious graduates of the master's program - Ksenia Velmozhina and Polina Shinkevich - succeeded in their educational and scientific activities, which became the basis for successful admission to graduate school. Young scientists specialize in the field of ecology and green energy. Velmozhina Ksenia deals with the issues of processing organic waste to produce environmentally friendly fuel - biogas. The result of the master's degree graduate's scientific work was a highly appreciated dissertation on the topic: “Improving the technology of anaerobic digestion of organic waste for energy purposes.”
Polina Shinkevich studies various uses of microalgae for environmental purposes. In particular, scientific research on the use of microalgae to reduce the carbon footprint of the fuel and energy complex was presented in the master's thesis: “Development of a method for utilizing carbon dioxide by microalgae.”
Students also take part in the development of innovative methods for producing alternative fuels - biomethane and biohydrogen.
Masters not only participated in writing and defending their own scientific works, but also actively shared their discoveries with the scientific community, actively publishing articles in scientific journals and taking part in the activities of the laboratory.
Professor Igor Vasilievich Ilyin, head of the laboratory, expressed his pride in the achievements of his charges: “This is a great achievement for our laboratory. We always encourage active participation of students in research activities, and seeing them successfully continue their education in graduate school fills us with pride and confidence in the future of science.”
CIRETEC-GT Masters have chosen different areas for their postgraduate research, expanding the scope of their knowledge. Their decision to continue active scientific research promises to bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches to their fields.
For Velmozhina Ksenia, entering graduate school was an important step in her scientific career: “The master’s program was an incredible experience, and I am proud that I was able to contribute to the research activities of the laboratory. Now I am ready for new challenges in graduate school and am confident that the joint efforts of our team will lead to new discoveries."
The CIRETEC-GT lab plans to support and inspire its students by opening up new perspectives in the world of science and technology.
